Term 1 Week 4

2 March 2010

Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students, Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's Catholic Primary School,

In a Lonely Place
In Luke's account of the transfiguration, Jesus is revealed in His glory, in the company of two of the great prophets. Our primary focus in reading this passage is this revelation of the glory of Jesus. The transfiguration of Jesus allows His disciples a further opportunity to comprehend the true nature of their Lord and Master.

It is instructive to notice the setting of this momentous event in Christ's Ministry. Jesus went into the mountains to pray. In this wilderness setting, He reveals His true nature. We all need time to go into the mountains to meet God. Our mountains may be literal or figurative; your mountain may be a quiet corner of your garden, or it may indeed be a rugged wilderness. Whatever its nature, the quietness of a setting allows us to draw near to God.

May you find the time and place to draw near to God, this Lenten season.

Prayer for the Second Sunday of Lent : The Transfiguration

E Hehu Karaiti – Jesus Christ, our companion on journeys to mountain tops and river valleys, it is good for us to be here. Give your assistance to all who strive to be good stewards of creation. The Lord is our light and salvation. Amen
~ From the Principal ~
Catholic Special Character Review – I am pleased to report that the verbal feedback at the end of the review last week was very positive. Sister Lucille Taylor and Mr Neil Laurenson both commented very favourably on the way in which the Catholic special character of the school is so evident in the school. I congratulate the staff, Board and students on the favourable impression they made on our visitors. I also thank the group of parents who met with our visitors for their willingness to share their impressions with our visitors.

Board of Trustee Elections – The three yearly Board elections are scheduled for 2010. Watch out for information in the newsletter. Please give thought to whether trusteeship might be a way you could involve yourself in the school.

Student Welcome - We offer a special welcome to Lourdes Mantes and Logan Ulberg who started at St. Mary's School this week. We look forward to getting to know you and making you welcome at St. Mary's School.
